working title - The Northern Lights

This project was initiated during an artist residency at Atelier Nøss and the island of Andøya in the north of Norway. Located at the north end of Vesteraalen archipelago above the Arctic circle, I explored the twilight time of winter when the polar night ends and the sun returns.
The area has a history of artists moving there to be inspired by the light and the landscape. Inspired by this tradition I aimed to study and interpret the landscape as seen by an artist.
Working with processes based on self made pinhole cameras, lumenprinting and photograms and locally sourced natural developers of seaweed and moss, I have collected images as materials from the landscape, to be used as building blocks and a creative starting point to recreate and re-imagine a place as an artist.
